Azerbaijan's Supreme Court to consider Ali Kerimli's claim regarding refusal to issue foreign passport to him

24 January 2008 [13:12] - TODAY.AZ
The Supreme Court of Azerbaijan will consider a claim of the chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan Ali Kerimli on January 25.

According to the plaintiff, he appealed to this instance, because he was not able to get a foreign passport.

"I have not been able to obtain a foreign passport for more than two years. I have already appealed to several court instances in this connection.

My claim has been considered by the Nasimi district court and Appelate Court. It is now being considered by the Supreme Court. The court hearing was scheduled for January 18, yet by some technical reasons, it has been put off to January 25. I hope my claim will be considered at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow and no problems will appear in this sense", A.Kerimli said.

It should be reminded that the term of A.Kerimli's foreign passport expired in summer of 2006. However, the law enforcement bodies refuse to issue a foreign passport to A.Kerimli due to institution of a criminal proceeding against him on September 10  of 1994.

A.Kerimli was accused of storing two anti-tank grenades.

Later the proceeding was suspended.

Since that time the leader of the opposition party has obtained a foreign passport twice-in 1996-2001 and in 2001-2006 and elected a Milli Medjlis deputy.
