Nushiravan Maharramli: "We will prefer others for ANS's frequencies"

24 November 2006 [22:33] - TODAY.AZ
National Council for Television and Radio chairman Nushiravan Maharramli's states that ANS has no chances for broadcasting.

At what extent did ANS TV and ANS CM Radio violate the law that you revokes their licenses?

Since 2003 ANS TV and ANS Radio have violated Articles 32.0.6, 35.2, 35.4, 35.5, 35.6, 35.8, 35.10, 36.5, 39.6 of the Broadcasting Law. The ANS didn't heed 11 official warnings and sanctions. The Council closed ANS TV and ANS CM under Article 22.4. They pretend to be democracy promoters but they didn't heed laws. ANS TV executive director Fuad Jabbarov and ANS CM Radio director general Ziya Majidli were also invited to the meeting at which the decision was made. We once more mentioned the irregularities and shortcomings to them. A tender will be announced to take the frequencies of ANS.

Can ANS join the tender again in order to reown its frequencies?

There is no concrete item in the law banning participation of unlicensed company. But, other contenders are preferable.

How will you react to the statements of international organizations?

We make decisions on the basis of laws. International organizations can't accuse us.

ANS said it would sue the Council...

Well. It reserves this right. It can bring a lawsuit against the Council, but we are right.

Why is ANS closed on the eve of its 15th anniversary?

We had to make this decision when ANS opened its bureau in Sheki. But, we didn't do because of parliamentary elections. We sent some warnings. We could pass this decision after the anniversary but they would then politicize it.

When will the tender be announced for the frequencies?

We will announce the tender conditions next week.

When will prolongation of Lider TV be reviewed?

- Next week we will discuss the problems with Lider TV, Aygun TV and Europe+ Radio. APA
