21 May 2006 [22:18] - TODAY.AZ
"Armenian President Robert Kocharyan will not stand for the third term, it is impossible," Presidential Adviser on National Security Garnik Isagulyan said on May 20 during a news conference.

According to him, Defense Minister Serge Sargsyan is most probable presidential contender. "At present, Secretary of Presidential National Security Council, Defense Minister Serge Sargsyan is one of most prepared and experienced candidates, who might become next Armenian president," Garnik Isagulyan stressed. "I believe that the Armenian policy, which is carried out now, will be protected and continued in such case," the adviser stated.

According to Isagulyan, Robert Kocharyan has been standing in first line for 20 years and "everything he has been doing for the years derived from national and not from private interests." "A man, who spent 20 years of his life to solve most complicated state questions, will never make such step [third presidential term]. He will not make the steps, which may cause following discussion of his work," Garnik Isagulyan stressed.

Mentioning possibility of Robert Kocharyan's becoming prime minister after finishing of his presidency, Isagulyan stressed that "after finishing his second presidency, Kocharyan will continue to influence upon country's political life; the influence will be stronger than prime minister's one."
