Baku witnesses another opposition demonstration today - UPDATED

Day.Az correspondent estimates that there were about 12 thousand people at the square and surrounding territories near Galaba Movie Theater. Baku Police Office estimated only four and a half thousands while the opposition stated that it managed to gather 80-100 thousand people at its demonstration today.

"The only way out of the political crisis is implementation of new Parliamentary elections," stated at the rally leader of Musavat Party Isa Gambar. "We will continue within the legal frame our fight that will lead us to the victory," Gambar underlined.

"Government lost an opportunity of holding democratic elections and now in order to reach democracy we call upon resignation of the regime," stated leader of PFPA (Reformists) Ali Kerimli. "Taking in regard the whole historical importance of the moment we are not intending to finish our demonstrations," Kerimli noted.

At the end opposition declared their resolution where they demanded government to:

 I.    Accept the fact that elections failed and implement new ones;

II.    Prosecute all who took part in forgeries of the results

III.   Immediately release academic Eldar Salayev and other political prisoners

IV.   Stop prosecution of persons who take part in mass protest actions

"Opposition today is fighting not for 5-10 mandates in the parliament but for freedom and democracy," stated at the rally head of the election headquarters of "Azadliq" block, Panah Huseynov.  According to him, the opposition along with independents has won more than two thirds of mandates in the new parliament and that gives them a right to make more serious steps.

The meeting has started. All opposition leaders are standing at a stage: Isa Gambar, Ali Kerimli, Lala Shovket Hadjiyeva, Sardar Jalalogly, Eldar Namazov, Ali Aliyev.

Columns of demonstrators started their movement from 20 January subway station towards Galaba Movie Theater. Oppositionists are carrying orange flags and banners. Among the banners can be also seen banners saying: "National resistance movement".

This movement was created during last week and its goal is cancellation of the election results and implementation of new elections.
