Opposition started its rally in Baku - UPDATED

The oppositional block "Azadliq" along with "Yeni Siyaset" [New Politics] block and the Liberal Party of Azerbaijan have started their promised rally at the "20 January" subway station and are moving towards "Gelebe" movie theater were they will hold a meeting that was sanctioned by the city authorities.

Leaders of PFPA (Reformists wing) and Musavat called people to fight till the end.

At the end of the rally they have read a resolution where demanded cancellation of the November 6 election results and implementation of new elections; release of political prisoners, finding killers as well as people who ordered to kill the editor of “Monitor” magazine, Elmar Huseynov.

The majority of the opposition banners are in English, calling the US President G.W.Bush to give democracy to Azeri people. Opposition is shouting: "Resignation".

First deputy of the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan, Sardar Jalalogly called voters "to fight till the end and not let the falsification to pass"

Entrances to the Galaba square are blocked by ordinary police patrol cars. The situation is calm.

People on the square in front of the subway station are carrying orange and red flags. The red flags with word "Liberal" written on them belong to the Liberal Party of Azerbaijan. Some oppositionists are wearing orange ties others have small flags on their cloth.

The opposition demonstrates against alleged falsifications committed during the elections. The rally is taking the same route used by Yeni Azerbaijan Party during its last pre-election meeting. At the same place ruling YAP is planning to rally again tomorrow.

The head of rally committee of "Azadliq" block Hasan Kerimov said that the rally may turn into timeless action unless authorities will fail to react on it.
