08 November 2005 [13:42] - TODAY.AZ
"An interpreter of the international observation mission with a number of gross linguistic and lexical mistakes distorted the words uttered by the PA OSCE chairman during the news conference," said Azer Gasimov, the press-secretary of the Azerbaijani President.

According to Gasimov, the interpreter translated a phrase by the PA OSCE in the following way: "The elections held yesterday did not meet the OSCE requirements and existing international standards in the sphere of democratic elections".

However the right interpretation for the sentence according to Gasimov was: "The elections held yesterday did not meet some existing requirements of the OSCE and the Council of Europe’s standards on democratic elections".

Such actions pursue shaping wrong public opinion. "Unfortunately, such a mistake was made during the initial estimation of such important process as elections," stressed the press secretary of the President.

Gasimov regretted that some embassies, missions, and international organizations while hiring local translators do not attach importance to their professionalism, which at the end leads to such gross mistakes.

Gasimov stated that the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan were held in democratic and transparent condition and the people could state their will. The fact that polling was positive in 87% of polling stations where the international observation mission, is high estimation.
