And, as usual, the heavy artillery was brought in. Moscow
turned to Rosselkhoznadzor — who else?
The agency suddenly blocked a shipment of peaches and
nectarines from Azerbaijan. Naturally, they "found something." It
doesn’t even matter what excuse they wrote in the documents.
Just the day before, by the way, the same Moscow was trying
to push a story about how Azerbaijani dairy producers are allegedly refusing to
let Russian inspectors examine their facilities. It looked like a direct
sanction. In reality, our companies simply stopped exporting to Russia — so of
course no one was let in.
All of this is especially ironic considering that Russia
already has very few official channels left for importing products from abroad.
“Found something”? Great job — keep looking. The old 2008
scheme with Borjomi and Georgian wine through Baku isn’t going to work this
time. They went after the wrong people.
You're already feeding your own consumers garbage. But hey,
at least you “responded harshly,” right?
