The ANIP Leader Etibar Mammadov received the head of the OSCE long-term observation mission in Azerbaijan ambassador Geert Ahrens and expert of the mission on political issues Rafaella Matey in his election headquarters yesterday.
APA was informed about it from the election headquarters of Etibar Mammadov. Etibar Mammadov highly valuing the activity of the observation mission said that it is estimable that unlike in previous years, the structure conducts the process in larger spectrum this year. The ANIP leader informed that although the government had deprived the opposition of financial resources during the recent years, the authority still does not want to hold free and fair elections. A large exchange of views was held in the meeting on the question of distribution of elector’s cards to citizens.
The ambassador Geert Ahrens expressed his serious concern on this problem. “Elector’s cards can not be trusted much. There is no guarantee that the same elector will be prevented to vote 2-3 times by means of elector’s cards. Prevention of this problem falls upon domestic and foreign observers. They must confront all elector’s cards with identity cards” the ambassador expressing his deep concern on printed elector’s cards also stressed that officials do not exactly announce the number of these cards. Besides it, mechanism of conducting of voting in military units was also discussed in the meeting.
The ambassador was also closely interested with the election campaign of the candidate to Milli Majlis from the II Yasamal election constituency #16 Etibar Mammadov.
G.Arens appraised holding meetings with electors in the provinces and informed that this is one of the main ways of eliminating elector’s passivity. Pre-election situation and intervention in meetings of candidates with electors by executive structures and police organs were also discussed in the meeting.
The deputy of the ANIP leader on international questions Fuad Mukhtarov and secretary of the “Yeni Siyaset” election bloc on election questions Adnan Novruzov also participated in the meeting.
