Azerbaijani House in Prague hosts poetry evening

Azerbaijani House in Prague has hosted a poetry evening, which took place against the backdrop of paintings by national artists living in this city.

At the beginning of her speech, Shahrun Suleymanova expressed her gratitude to the State Committee for Work with Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani Embassy in the Czech Republic and Natavan Society.

The poetry evening consisted of three parts. In the first part, the poet recited poems dedicated to Victory Day, martyrs and the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev. Then, video clips were shown to the guests.

"The initiative of the Natavan Society - the clip "Urayim Shusha" with music by Anar Ibrahimov (Germany) and lyrics by Leyla Begim (Czech Republic), beautifully realized by the Baku Media Center, was released on November 7 and became a harbinger of victory for the Azerbaijani people, and I am proud that I was the author of the translation of this song into Azerbaijani, beautifully performed by Sevda Alakbarzadeh," the poetess said.

Then, the members of the Azerbaijani diaspora were delighted with the song "My Garabagh" performed by Sevinj Javadova, lyrics by Shahrun Suleymanova and music by Givi Usenashvili.

In the second part of the evening, poetess, a member of the Azerbaijan Writers' Union Shahrun Suleymanova recited translated poems of both classics and modern poets, including Konstantin Simonov, Robert Rozhdestvensky, A.S. Pushkin, Leyla Aliyeva, Leyla Begim, Murad Hasanov (Germany), Naila Nadir and Narmina Mammadzadeh.

Shahrun Suleymanova especially noted Leyla Begim's participation in the translation of the play "Immolatio":

This play draws very interesting parallels between the ideas and destinies of two peers, sons of the Azerbaijani and Czech peoples, Imadeddin Nasimi and Jan Hus.

The evening's participants also watched an excerpt from this production, staged by People's Artist of Azerbaijan Vagif Asadov, at the Maqsud Ibrahimbayov Creativity Center in Baku.

The third part of the evening was dedicated to Shahrun Suleymanova's personal works, including the poem "To My City," which she wrote during the pandemic.

The poetess noted that she was very happy to see thousands of guests in Baku, participants of the leaders' summit of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
