SOCAR considers Nabucco's proposal to lay pipeline to Baku

11 June 2011 [09:39] - TODAY.AZ
The main reason for the delay in signing an agreement on transit of the Azerbaijani gas to Turkey is a discrepancy between the principles of law, and now the lawyers of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) are working to bring this matter to a common denominator, the head of SOCAR Rovnag Abudllayev said Friday.

He said today the main attention focuses on the selection of routes for the transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe. By the beginning of October, the supposed pipeline projects, including Nabucco, TAP, ITGI, must submit their proposals for the transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe.

"It is possible to return to the coordination of transit issue after the route selection," Abdullayev said.

Regarding the proposal of the Nabucco consortium to lay gas pipeline from the border of Turkey and Georgia to Baku, Abdullayev said this proposal was received.

"We consider it on topic of what it can give us. We must consider this issue and evaluate it," said the head of SOCAR.

In this case, Abdullayev said that SOCAR does not support only one of the options for the supply of Azerbaijani gas to Europe.

"Rates in the European market are the same, and everything will depend on transportation tariffs, which will pipeline projects offer," Abdullayev said.
