06 June 2011 [17:12] - TODAY.AZ
The construction operations of SOCAR's new administrative building are conducted successfully and on schedule.

At present, drainage wells are being dug for underground piles under the building tower, SOCAR's official website said.

The foundation laying ceremony of SOCAR's new administrative building was held on the Heydar Aliyev Avenue in Baku last October. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev attended the event.

The design for SOCAR's modern office building began development in 2007, when the contest was announced. Proposals of many reputable world companies, as well as Azerbaijani companies, were considered.

The building was designed by Korean Heerim Architects & Planners Co. Ltd on the basis of the architectural concept "wind-flame".

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) signed an agreement with the Korean Heerim Architects & Planners Co. Ltd., on designing the new SOCAR administrative building in September 2007.

Initially, the project cost was estimated at $235.4 million. The 200-meter-building will consist of 40 higher-level and two underground level floors. It will cover five acres. There are five meeting rooms, a fitness center, several dining rooms for 1,243 people, underground parking for 1,045 cars and surface parking for 240 cars in the building.

The building can withstand an earthquake measuring nine on the Richter scale.
