Azerbaijani government publishes ICT sector figures for 2010

Azerbaijani communications enterprises invested 110 million manat in the communications sector in 2010, the Cabinet of Ministers said today.

Some 79 million manat were invested by ministry enterprises and associations.

The volume of the services provided in the ICT sector in 2010 increased by 29.7% and reached 1161.3 million manat compared to the 2009 figures. Some 78.6% of the income earned in the field fell to communications services provided by the non-state sector.

The amount of rendered services grew steadily from 2004 to 2010. The figure was 356.2 million manat in 2004, 488.9 million manat in 2005, 599.9 million manat in 2006, 735.4 million manat in 2007, 967.8 million manat in 2008, 1.081 billion manat in 2009 and 1.161 billion manat in 2010.

A significant portion of the country’s telecommunications network was transferred into the e-form. The country completed the laying of a fiber-optic cable line with a length of 240 kilometers, which made it possible to connect most of the country to the network.

The fitting capacity of the country’s telephone network increased by more than 71.9 units to over 1.66 million units at the expense of the investment projects.

If some 66.8 telephones accounted for 100 families in 2009, the figure reached 67.3 units in 2010. The indicator for Baku was 130 units and 47.3 units for the country’s other territories.
The number of computers was 14 units per 100 people, with 45 Internet users per 100 people, of whom 12% use broadband Internet access.

The subscriber bases of Baku Telephone Communications and Aztelekom increased by 3,994 units to 27,294 units since early 2010. The CDMA network covered 70 percent of the country’s settlements.

Mobile penetration in the country reached 100% in 2010. The number of mobile subscribers increased by 1.2 million to 8.9 million. The amount of income received by the mobile sector increased by 30.2% to 782.6 million manat. Of this figure, 73.6% fell to the mobile communications sector.

During the reporting period, ICT sector revenues increased by 77.6% to $91.8 million manat compared to 2009.
