Azerbaijan could ensure its power security and turned from importer to exporter of electricity in a short period of time.

Works to upgrade the power grid of Nakhchivan allowed to supply it with the electric power and also provided an opportunity to start exporting electricity to Turkey, Azerbaijani Industry and Energy Minister Natik Aliyev said on Friday.
Implementation of the Electric Power Project North-South (synchronizing power grids of Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran) will significantly increase the export of electricity to Iran, he said.
"Azerbaijan has already carried out huge works within the framework of this project. In particular, a high-voltage electricity transmission line Imishli-Parsabad [Azerbaijan-Iran] has been laid. Also, transformer stations were built and I think that soon they will be put into operation," Aliev said.
Power lines Jasper Derbent (Russia - Azerbaijan) are under construction as well, the minister said.
