The Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict resembles a labyrinth. After numerous unsuccessful attempts to find a way out, one way is to continue to hope that the next exit will be the right one.

One could compare this situation to the hopes that the next high-level meeting, or the next presidential summit could hold the solution. However, every time these hopes are shattered and just as in a labyrinth, it turns out to be deceptive due to Armenia’s non-constructive position.

Ignoring all international calls to respect ceasefire agreement and reduce tension on the frontline, Armenia continues its occupation policy while constantly aggravating the situation on the contact line of Armenian-Azerbaijani troops.

Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry reported on December 10 that the Armenian armed forces 47 times violated the ceasefire on various parts of the contact line of Armenian and Azerbaijani troops over the past 24 hours.

As late as December 8, an Armenian reconnaissance and sabotage group once again attempted to cross the line of contact. The Azerbaijani armed forces destroyed the Armenian reconnaissance and sabotage group in the south of the Armenian and Azerbaijani frontline.

The enemy’s movement and approach was noticed in time thanks to the vigilance of the Azerbaijani servicemen. As a result of the pro-active measures and fierce firefight, the Armenian saboteurs retreated while suffering losses, according to the ministry. The ministry added that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces did not suffer any losses. The situation on the frontline is under the control, the Defense Ministry statement read.

Following the increasing number of skirmishes on the frontline, OSCE announced it will hold new monitoring on the contact line to observe the situation.

Monitoring on the contact line of Armenian and Azerbaijani troops near the village of Alibayli of Tovuz district will be held on December 11 in accordance with the mandate of the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office.

Armenian reconnaissance and sabotage groups frequently attempt to cross the positions of the Azerbaijani armed forces. However, every time are forced to retreat with losses.

Tensions along the frontline were aggravated in mid-summer as Armenian armed forces attacked Azerbaijani positions. Sporadic fighting has continued ever since. Fourteen Azerbaijani servicemen were killed and several others injured during the clashes between two sides. Armenia hasn't released the exact number of its casualties.

Recently, Armenian air forces were engaged in provocative moves against the armed forces of Azerbaijan. Two Mi-24 attack helicopters of the Armenian air forces approached and made attack maneuvers in the immediate vicinity of the positions of the Azerbaijani armed forces nearby the village of Kengerly in the occupied Aghdam region on November 12 . One of the helicopters was shot down on the very same occupied territory.

The recent escalation of the tensions on frontline should be considered as a warning for the international organizations and world powers.

The Azerbaijani authorities have repeatedly announced that its army is completely ready to free its territories from the Armenian occupation, but again it prefers the diplomatic solution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Armenia occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent regions, after laying territorial claims against its South Caucasus neighbor that caused a brutal war in the early 1990s. Long-standing efforts by U.S., Russian and French mediators have been largely fruitless so far.

As a result of the military aggression of Armenia, over 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed, 4,866 are reported missing and almost 100,000 were injured, and 50,000 were disabled.

The UN Security Council has passed four resolutions on Armenian withdrawal from the Azerbaijani territory, but they have not been enforced to this day.
