Azerbaijani acrobats grasp silver and bronze at int'l contest

Azerbaijani acrobats ranked second and third at the Volkov Cup international tournament, which was held in Veliky Novgorod, Russia on September 5-10.

According to the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation, Azerbaijani athletes Lala Huseynova and Khoshgadam Guliyeva won silver medals. The Azerbaijani duo confidently took the third place in the qualifying stage. In the final, Huseynova and Guliyeva were surpassed only by the Russian athletes, finishing second.

In turn, Elchin Alibeyov and Emin Gulmammadli ranked third at the competition.

This year's tournament was joined by more than 280 athletes from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Kazakhstan, Moldova, France and Russia. Teams from Australia, Canada and Uzbekistan took part in the competition for the first time.

The tournament in Russia was considered by the coaches as a sparring test ahead of the European championships and continental competitions, which will be held in Portugal in October.

Another Azerbaijani athlete, Ruslan Agamirov, has participated in the Trampoline World Championships held in Portugal.

Agamirov, who participated at an international competition for the first time, could not gain a prize. However, his 42nd ranking will serve as an impetus to work harder, especially since the next championships are around the corner.

Spain will host the next cup at the end of this week.
