Spanish juveniles best of Europe

19 June 2013 [09:50] - TODAY.AZ
Spain has retained its European Under-21 Champions title by defeating Italy 4-2 in the final with three goals from Thiago Alcantara and one from Isco. Spain continues its domination in European football, winning the past two European Cups and the past two UEFA European U-21 Championships.

Spain's ambitious style of play could have no other outcome than victory. It was the best team from the very first whistle of its match against Russia until the lights were switched off at the Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem. Few opponents would be able to go up against it and prevent the success that was written in the stars of this golden generation of players.

Thiago, set up by Morata, scored the 1-0 from a header just 6 minutes in. Italy responded and, four minutes later, equalised with an excellent move from Immobile, skilfully controlling the ball and sending it skyward over De Gea.

Thiago shone again, as only the best can, stopping a ball by Koke on his chest, and squeezing a shot past Bardi who only managed to get a finger to it.

A penalty awarded to Tello, converted by Thiago, put the scores at 3-1 before half time. Another penalty, this one taken by Isco, put Spain on a home run to the final whistle during which time Borini reduced the gap for Italy.
