Baku chess team reaches semifinal in UAE

 Azerbaijani Baku have managed to outclass the Wu Xi team of China 3-1 to reach the semifinal in the World Cities Chess Team Championship in Al Ain, the UAE.

In the quarterfinal matches, Baku`s GM Rauf Mammadov outplayed Li Wenliang and Nijat Mammadov beat Fang Yuxiang to give Baku the 3-1 victory and a slot in the semifinals. Chess players Eltaj Safarli and Gadir Huseinov were held to draws by Chinese GM Wang Yue and Ji Dan.

Baku will face Serbian Novi Sad in semifinal, where Ivan Ivanishevich (2633) will play against Eltaj Safarli (2626), while Gadir Huseynov (2628) vs Robert Markus (2619), Milosh Perunovich (2614) vs Rauf Mammadov (26 47) and Vasif Durarbayli (2587) vs Nicola Sedlack (2572).
