European Weightlifting Championship has kicked off in Antalya, Turkey, bringing together 110 women and 165 men athletes from 36 countries. According to azerisport.com, Azerbaijani national team’s weightlifter Silvia Angelova (48 kg) performed the first. In the biathlon, she lifted 175 kg (78 kg + 97 kg) and took the third place. Marjena Karpinska (Poland) lifted 187 kg (85 + 102) and took the second place and Nurdan Karagöz (Turkey) - 177 kg (77 +100) - took the second place.
Azerbaijani weightlifter Valentin Khristov (56 kg) lifted 125 kg in the snatch, and then recorded 155 in the jerk. Thus, in the biathlon, Khristov lifted 280 kg and became the European champion.
Athletes Afgan Bayramov (69 kg), Namig Jalilov (85 kg), Intigam Zahirov (94 kg), Boyanka Kostova (58 kg), Alena Kirilenko (69 kg) and Julia Dvgal (75 kg) will also perform at the championship.
