Azerbaijani education minister responded to Iranian Ayatollah's remarks

"Decision passed related to hijab will be realized. There can be no doubt about it," Education Minister Misir Mardabov told journalists in response to remarks by Iranian Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi's regarding the recent ban imposed on hijab at secondary schools.

“We call everyone to respect it. I am sure that it will be successful. It does not contrary to neither Islam nor Islamism. Indeed, our step aims to contribute to Islam's authority”, the minister said.

Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi said that Islamic tenets and hijab should be obeyed in Azerbaijan because Azerbaijan is a Muslim country.
