Excavations reveal 40,000 samples of ancient material culture in Azerbaijan

Mahmud Karimov, President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, ANAS, spoke about results of archaeological excavations in the territory of the country at the scientific conference "Ancient and medieval cities of Azerbaijan: archaeological heritage, history and architecture" held in Shamkir on October 27.

"Ancient and medieval cities of Azerbaijan had manufacturing centers that paved a way for cultural and intellectual development. It is therefore necessary to explore in depth the archaeological heritage found throughout the country. Archaeological excavations in the territory of Azerbaijan have found more than 40,000 samples of material culture only in the last 3 years,” Karimov said.
