Expanded conference of teachers held in Baku

Head of the Baku Education Department Nailya Rzaguliyeva made opening remarks at the conference.

“Over the past 4 years Baku schools have achieved the greatest success in terms of education of the younger generation. It is no accident that 28 schools of the capital are among the 50 best school of the republic,” Rzagulieva said.

The Baku Education Department oversees 309 pre-school educational institutions, including 303 nurseries, kindergartens and baby homes and 3 preschool sanatoriums. Over the past few years 11 new kindergartens have been built. Three new kindergartens have been built with financial support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, she added.

In addition, the Baku Education Department also oversees 311 secondary schools, 3 major, 5 auxiliary and one school of home education and 5 evening schools in a correctional facility.

“The state budget earmarked nearly 238 million manat for development of education in 2009 which was 21% more than the previous year and 1.276 billion million manat was earmarked in 2010,” she said.

"Unfortunately only 25% of children are enrolled in preparatory classes. To promote involvement of children aged 5-6 years in preschool education and preparatory classes, the Ministry of Education is developing a new curriculum. Currently, 31, 037 309 children have been registered by 309 pre-school educational institutions.”

The observations showed that kindergartens operating in the city can not cope with their task and 1,009 indoor facilities are not used for the due purpose, as 38 of them are in terrible condition, and 700 are accommodated by internally-displaced persons, she noted.

”If kindergartens operate at full force, we can involve 52,000 children into early education comprising 50%,” she noted.
