"According to official statistics, about 25% of 24 000 drug addicts in Azerbaijan are young people"

“Azerbaijan integrates into the world and unfortunately, along with positive moments, this integration has negative moments as well”, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sport Intigam Babayev told journalists.

He noted that drug addiction existed in Azerbaijan, as well, as in other countries: “According to official statistic, nearly 24 000 drug addicts have been recorded in Azerbaijan, about 6 000 of them are youth. But international experts think that official statistics does not reflect real situation. For all that drug addiction is a problem. Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Youth and Sport takes appropriate measures against narcomania."

"Our main duty is to hold preventive measures. Opportunities and means of State Youth Policy should be directed so that our healthy young people were not drug addicts. We hold campaigns in accordance with narcomania in the regions within a whole year and try to use modern propaganda within the framework of this campaign. Different events connected with June 26 - International Day against Drug Abuse, are being held in Baku and in the regions," Babayev explained.
