Azerbaijan to host conference of European environment ministers
04 June 2010 [09:35] - TODAY.AZ
Ministers responsible for environment from across Europe will come together in Azerbaijan's Gabala city on Saturday.
The 3-day gathering is a preparatory event ahead of the UN General Assembly`s session on climate change and biodiversity. Christophe Bouvier, Director of United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) Regional Office for Europe, has visited Gabala to inspect the venue of the meeting and see preparatory work.
“Gabala has all necessary conditions to host an international conference. Thanks to the Azerbaijani government's successful policy rapid development is underway not only in the capital, but also in the country's regions.”
Bouvier said: “The reason why we've gathered here is to draw the international community`s attention to what has been done in the field of environment in Azerbaijan.”
“Azerbaijan's government and society have combined efforts to achieve what can be an example to other countries,” the UNEP official added.
Bouvier also said there were plans to arrange similar gatherings in Japan and the United States.
