Who will decide the fate of old cars in Baku?

07 May 2010 [10:05] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijani MP Musa Guliyev supports the idea of prohibiting the old cars usage in the country. According to him, such idea must be discussed, and an appropriate law should be released in Azerbaijani Republic.

"I think that this idea of prohibiting the use of cars 20 years of age or older must be taken seriously. This can ease the traffic in Baku, reduce the amount of harmful car emissions, road traffic accidents with cars in bad condition", the MP said.

"I believe this must be done in a milder form. For example, restrict an entry in Baku of such old cars, and allow the owners of these cars purchase a new vehicle on bank loans at low interest rates", he pointed out.

Guliyev admits, that such changes in law depend on the decision of Cabinet of Ministers.

Head of Public Affairs General Directorate of Traffic Police , Kamran Aliyev also expressed his opinion on the subject, agreeing that "cars in bad condition should not be allowed to be driven".

"If, however, a car is in stable condition from a technical point of view, then the use is permitted, regardless of the year this car was released", Aliyev pointed out.
