Azerbaijani ambassador to Ukraine expresses protest to country's authorities

The Azerbaijani embassy to Ukraine sent a diplomatic note to Ukrainian authorities about destruction of the monument to Azerbaijanis fell victims while liberating Sevastopol from fascists, Azerbaijani ambassador to Ukraine Talat Aliyev said on Oct. 7.
"The note of protest reflects indignation of Azerbaijan concerning vandalism towards the monument to Azerbaijanis who died while liberating Sevastopol from fascists. The monument was erected upon the initiative of national leader Heydar Aliyev in 1974," the ambassador said.

The monument was erected at Sapun Mountain. Ambassador said that several people destroyed memorial with intent to steal bronze monument at night on Oct. 4.

In its note, the embassy urged Ukrainian authorities to find criminals, punish them and take steps to restore destroyed monument.

The Sevastopol police says two suspects have been already detained, ambassador said.
