Son of imprisoned editor-in-chief of Tolshi Sado newspaper acquitted

The Sabail district court has finished the court hearing on the case of Emil Mamedov, son of imprisoned editor-in-chief of the Tolshi Sado newspaper Novruzali Mamedov.
The hearing was chaired by judge Rauf Ahmedov.

The prosecutor demanded one year of imprisonment and 6 months of recovery from drug addiction for Mamedov.

Under the verdict, Emil Mamedov was released due to insufficient proofs. He was acquitted.

It should be noted that Emil Mamedov was carried in an unknown direction on July 16 of 2008. Later it became clear that he was arrested by officers of the 9th Sabail police station for storing drugs.

He was charged under article 234.1 (illegal purchase or storage of drugs or psychotropic substances in the amounts, exceeding the volumes, necessary for personal consumption, not for the purpose of sale) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

Emil's father Novruzali Mamedov was found guilty under article 274 (high treason) and sentenced to 10 years in prison, while the employee of the said newspaper Guliyev was imprisoned for 6 years.
