Vahhabis not allowed to pray in Lezguin mosque

29 August 2008 [14:37] - TODAY.AZ
The followers of the Vahhabi sect were not allowed to pray in Lezguin mosque, locating in Icherisheher.
The area around the Lezgiun mosque was taken under control of the officers of the Sabail district police station before the start of namaz prayer.

The exit and entrance to this area have been restricted.

The pious, which were directing to the Mosque from the side of the national park and various streets of Icherisheher, were stopped. The policemen said there is no place for fulfilling namaz in the mosque, The police officers and officials of the state committee for work with religious formations recommended to go to the Gey Mosque or the mosque in Bibi Eybat. Vahhabis made several attempts to enter the mosque but they did not manage. After completion of namaz, the order was restored in the area.

According to representative of the State Committee Gunduz Ismaylov, the fact that the people were not allowed to the Mosque, was not connected with their being vahhabis: "The security measures have been strengthened in this mosque after an explosion in Abu Bekir. Namaz is allowed to practice only inside the mosque. Namaz has been also conducted around the Lezgiun mosque and on the surrounding roads for several days. Yet, it is incorrect in the sense of security. There are other mosques in the capital and these people can pray there. We take this measures only for security purposes".

Ismaylov noted that the state committee did not call the police to the mosque: "They were just fulfilling their duty and taking security measures".
