Azerbaijan's Prosecution General: "Case of Azadlyg newspaper correspondent occurred not on the professional basis but on basis of relations, resulting from immoral actions"

According to the material, Agil Halil appealed to the 28th department of the Yasamal district police station. According to the appeal, he was stabbed by the unknowns near one of the buildings in the 523rd quarters along Ayna Sultanova street of Baku on March 13 of 2008.

In this connection, an operative group was created to inspect the stop of accident and other immediate measures were also undertaken. The journalist was brought to hospital where he received professional medical aid and he signed out on March 17 of 2008.

Though Agil Halil bound the stabbing with the previous beating by two officials in the Olive park, none of the witnesses on the spot of stabbing confirmed that anyone appealed to them for help.
It was obvious that Agil Halil did not request help immediately and called his colleagues in the Azadlyg newspaper. The head of the newspaper Azer Ahmedov, instead of bringing the journalist to hospital, came with him to the 28th police station and then returned with policemen on the spot. They went to the hospital only at about 20:40.

Though Agil Halil announced that he would be able to recognize the persons who pursued and stabbed him, he could not name the peculiar features of his offenders, while compiling a photofit. He seemed to direct investigation to the wrong path.

The investigation revealed a person, who received a sexual message from a cell phone belonging to Agil Halilov. It was revealed that this cell phone belongs to queer Sergey Strekalin, born in 1965, who was also involved into investigation.

It was revealed that Sergey Strekalin and Agil Khalilov had sexual relations since 2005 until November-December of 2007. Yet as Agil called him with a request to have sexual relations with his friends, their relations grew colder.

On that day Sergey arrived in a car with driver Eldar Rasulov to a house near the Appellate Court, where Safarova Nurset Rashar gizi lives. At that moment he saw Khalil, took out his knife, got off the car and met Agil to the car to have a talk. Agil was behind the driver and Sergey was to the right.

Then they argued and Sergey told him not to call again and cursed him and stabbed him to his breast. Then Agil got off and went away.

This was also witnessed by driver Eldar Rasulov.

During the investigation, Agil Halil confessed that he knows Sergey Strekalin, but he rejected being in the place where the incident occurred and that he had any relations with any queer men.

The administration of Azadlyg newspaper fearing that the newspaper reporter will be exposed by the evidences, announced that Agil Halil was subjected to pressure by investigation bodies and is blackmailed with relations with queer persons and made investigation materials public.

Though publication of results of preliminary investigation is considered inadmissible, the investigation body considered it necessary to bring the information to community due to the attempts of the newspaper to arise doubts regarding the objectiveness of the investigation.

The investigation is currently going on and completely unbiased investigation of all facts, important for the criminal case will be provided.
