Haji Mammadov wants closed trial

08 August 2006 [16:30] - TODAY.AZ
Court of Grave Crimes today continued the trial of the gang led by Haji Mammadov, former official of the Interior Ministry Crime Investigation Department.

The trial was chaired by Judge Ali Seyfaliyev, APA reports. Haji Mammadov in his testimony wanted to give testimony before judge, prosecutor and any of the lawyers.

"I want to give testimony before three officials to share my opinions. I do not mean to invite you to any deal. My testimony on the murder of "Monitor" magazine editor-in-chief Elmar Huseynov caused a stir. I will give more shocking testimony regarding the murder of Shilkhan Abuyev. If it is impossible, I want the trial to be held closed with participation of any lawyer. It is very important in terms of having normal trial. But the lawyer should undertake obligations for not reporting anything to the media," the defendant said.

The judge said the trial is open in accordance with Criminal Procedural Code adding that if a testimony contains state secret or family secret as well as inmate relations, a special stage of trial can be held.

"You can appeal for holding a closed trial with presence of the process participants only," the judge said.

Haji Mammadov responded to the questions of the public prosecutors related to the murder of Chechen Abuyev.

"If I did not kill Abuyev he would have killed me. He ordered my death," he said.

He noted he is ready to bear testimony with this regard.

Haji also said Abuyev had good relationships with former Interior Minister Isgender Hamidov and Rovshan Javadov. The trial will be continued today.
