12 media outlets taken into Court in January-May

Today round table organized by Whole republic and Specialized Court Judges and Press Council (PC) on the subject "Court judges and mass media role in juridical state."

Chairman of the association and Nasimi region Court, Aladdin Jafarov taking part in the measure stated his being against of any pressures to media representatives.

According to APA, the solution of the problem related to media in physical pressure is unacceptable. PC chairman Aflatun Amashov considered necessity of specializing of journalists working in different mass media organs. Amashov has stated that penalties by the Court are very high and punishment is very tough against journalists.

"If the penalties are not high, equal to part of salary of journalist, in this case penalties might be paid. According to yearly monitoring of Press Council, the fact of taking journalist to Court is decreasing. 50 mass media was taken to Court in 2003, 50 in 2004, 15 in 2005 and 12 mass media outlets within 5 months of this year."

Nizami Region Court chairman Tamella Nasrullayeva reminded official registration of 2382 media outlets so far. "Boyuk millet" (Great nation) newspaper published slander materials on Abel Maharramov; even he is supposed to be Armenian. Abel Maharramov took him to Court, I investigated the case. In the Court the editor-in-chief of the newspaper Samir Adigozalli insisted on his stand instead of confessing his fault, apologizing to. As a result I gave award on his being imprisoned for a year's term."
