Ex- defense minister to lead opposition "Georgian party"

Former Defense Minister Irakli Okruashvili, who is in France with the status of political refugee, was elected as the chairman of the opposition "Georgian party" in Tbilisi. Previously, he was a founding member of the party headed by a former public defender Sozar Subari, who recently left the party.

At the constituent congress the "Georgian party" and "United Georgia" movement united under the name "Georgian party." Irakli Okruashvili candidacy for the presidency was supported unanimously by delegates. Erosi Kitsmarishvili became co-chairman of the party.

The congress delegates elected to the Political Council of "Georgian party" Irakli Okruashvili, Erosi Kitsmarishvili, Ramaz Ioseliani, Levan Terashvili, Sofia Khorguani, Theo Tlashadze, Leri Lapachi, Irakli Dolaberidze, Kakhaber Ergemlidze and Amiran Iobashvili.
