Turkey, Colombia agree to lift visas

Turkey and Colombia agreed on Friday to reciprocally abolish visa requirements in a bid to further boost swelling trade ties between the two countries Todays zaman reported.

President Abdullah Gul told reporters in a joint news conference with his Colombian counterpart, Juan Manuel Santos, that the presidents agreed to develop relations between the two countries in every sphere and that lifting visa requirements is what he said "one of the best signs" of a will to improve ties.

Gül said economic relations between the two countries are getting stronger and that the trade volume has already surpassed half billion dollars, adding that potential of both countries is high.

Turkish president said they also discussed regional affairs during their talks, including Israel-Palestinian conflict.

Santos also hailed the decision to lift visa requirements and said "it is a very important and symbolic step."
