President: 2012 will be year of great projects for Georgia

2012 will be year of great projects, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili at a meeting with the parliamentary majority on Monday.

"In Russia, as well as in several other countries of the region, corruption is very strong, great disorders and a sense of hopelessness are prevailing, and this is a situation in which Georgia should attract investments," Saakashvili said. "This is a moment when capital flees from other countries, and we have a chance to increase our investments at the expense of it".

He said the construction of large hydropower plants - Neskra, Khudoni, Namakhvari and others will begin in 2012. Major tourism infrastructure projects are also planned for 2012.

The new resort will be created in Svaneti on Tetnuld together with the French, and 70 million lari is allocated for this purpose. New infrastructure will appear in the Kakheti region, a major project is planned in Borjomi, and laying of a tunnel to the Kazbegi region will enter the final stage.

"Pensions and insurance development will further increase. Large projects are planned in health sphere, and technical schools will be created," Saakashvili said.
