Iran to construct new fighter jet

07 October 2011 [13:11] - TODAY.AZ
Iran will manufacture a new fighter jet in addition to the Azarakhsh and Saegeh planes, Mehr News Agency quoted Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi as saying.

During his visit to the Nuja Air Force Base in Hamadan province, Vahidi stressted that Iran demonstrates its military might by domestically producing and exploring the advanced military technologies in spite of the international sanctions imposed on it over the nuclear program.

Iran's first domestically manufactured fighter Saeqeh (Thunderbolt) is the second generation of Azarakhsh (Lightening) fighter.

The first single-seat fighter jets were tested successfully in September 2007. The country's Defense Industries launched its commercial production in 2008. The Saeqeh is a joint product of the Iranian Air Force and the Defense Ministry.
