Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei pardoned 1,218 prisoners Sunday in coming Eid al-Fitr by the end of holy month of Ramadan, IRNA reported.
Mehr News Agency reported earlier Iran’s Supreme Leader pardoned 100 political prisoners quoting the general prosecutor of Tehran Abbas Jafari Dovletabadi.
According to the report, the pardoned political perisoners committed a crime against state security.
As reported by Fars, citing an unnamed source, the arrested protesters were held after the presidential election in 2009. From a hundred prisoners pardoned 70 were released, 18 were in respect of terminated execution, and 12 were reduced sentence.
