“The resolution of Nagorno Karabakh conflict must be based on the unconditional recognition of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity by Armenia, the occupied territories must be given back to Azerbaijan. After that Azerbaijan and Armenia can give guarantee to the safety of the people living in the former Nagorno Karabakh Autonomous Oblast and the return of the people to their native lands,” Armenian film director, head of the “South Caucasus integration: Alternative Start” Public Union Georgi Vanyan said in his interview to Georgia Online website.
Famous public figure Vanyan accused Yerevan of holding its people hostage. He considers that the present policy of the Armenian government impedes achievement of peace with Azerbaijan and therefore, this policy must be changed fundamentally. Georgi Vanyan also said that Armenia’s outpost relations with Russia impede the development of the relations with the West.
Armenian film director’s statement caused concern in Yerevan.
“No Silence” youth organization appealed to Armenian law-enforcement bodies and called to launch criminal proceedings against Vanyan, who is ready to betray motherland. The organization is more concerned over Vanyan’s statement to give back the occupied territories to Azerbaijan. Some Armenian media outlets started campaign against Vanyan. But there are those who support the film director.
Armenian National Committee of Helsinki Citizen’s Assembly says Vanyan is free to express his views.
