FM: UK should reconsider ties with Iran

22 July 2011 [12:30] - TODAY.AZ
UK should reconsider its behavior towards Islamic Republic of Iran, Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said while noting that Tehran-London relations are not satisfactory, IRNA reported.

He made the remark in an exclusive interview with IRNA late Thursday while elaborating on the fact that the Islamic Republic of Iran does not have any problem vis-à-vis establishing ties with any country except Israel.

"Islamic Republic of Iran pursues resuming ties with any country on the basis of same-level dialogue. Lifting the bans on Iranian national Nosratollah Tajik can be a positive sign from British government in terms of reconsidering diplomatic relations with Iran," Salehi added.

In another part of his interview, he said that the US wants to treat Iran like it did before the 1979 Islamic Revolution and base its relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran according to its political tendencies.

"The Kind of relations that Washington wants to pursue with Tehran is similar to the one that the wolf wants to have with lamb which is rejected by the Islamic Republic of Iran," Salehi added.

He pointed out that if the US avoids making the same mistakes it had in the past and it respects the rights of the Iranian nation, the situation will be different in that case.

Commenting on Iran’s nuclear case, Salehi said that Iran is looking for a win-win situation in the nuclear case and if the West believes in such situation, it can come to the negotiating table.

Referring to the current misunderstandings between Islamic Republic of Iran and Saudi Arabia, Salehi said that these misunderstandings are due to the recent political developments in the Middle East and they can be easily overcome.
