Imports of gold on rise in Turkey

The imports of gold into Turkey is going up in 2011 after a record drop in 2009.

According to the Istanbul Gold Exchange (IAB), Turkey imported 37.6 tonnes of gold in 2009 and 42.5 tonnes gold in 2010.

In the first half of 2011, Turkey imported 23.3 tonnes of gold, IAB figures indicated.

Experts at the IAB said that the imports of gold was going up in 2011 as individuals wanted to own gold as investments.
