25 May 2011 [18:06] - TODAY.AZ
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Wednesday that Ankara was not merely the capital of Turkey but a city that determined the global agenda and one that was watched by the whole world, Xinhua reported.

Speaking at a meeting held at the Ankara Chamber of Trade (ATO) to introduce projects for Ankara, Erdogan said that he was excited about the new projects, hoping that those projects would be beneficial for the whole country.

Erdogan said that several defense sector projects were currently going on and that others would begin in Ankara after the June 12 elections, adding that Turkey is turning Ankara into one of the most crucial centers for the defense sector in the world.

Erdogan said that Turkey is going to build two new hospitals in Ankara with a total capacity of 7,000 beds, adding "the hospitals would be built in Kecioren/Etlik and Bilkent districts."

One of the projects for Ankara is the new stadium with a capacity of 40,000 seats under UEFA standards, Erdogan said, adding that the Ankara Zoo, the biggest one in the Middle East, will be built.

He also said that a National Botanic Park with 4,000 endemic plants, a library and a research center would be built on the Eskisehir highway near Ankara.

Erdogan said that the metro lines between Kizilay and Cankaya, Sincan and Batikent, and Kizilay and Cayyolu in Ankara would soon be completed, adding that Turkey would build a new rail system between Kizilay and Akyurt and the airport.

Erdogan said that just as in Istanbul, Turkey would begin erecting a new city by Ankara, naming the project "Guneykent" suitable for 500,000 people.
