Turkey’s prominent movie and video distributor and screen advertising company, Fida Film, acquired Tiglon, domestic distributor of international film producer companies such as Twentieth Century Fox, Warner Bros. and Walt Disney, according to a written statement from Fida on Monday.

The new Fida-Tiglon Group expects to reap nearly $120 million in turnover this year, the statement read. The company was the leader of the Turkish film industry with 17.2 percent market share in 2010 with its co-produced domestic films and imported foreign movies.

Fida Film, which is also active in film production and film laboratory management, aims to strengthen its position in the Turkish film industry by the merger.

In addition to domestic productions, Fida Film, active since 1965, is also Turkey’s leading foreign movie supplier. Fida Film undertook the co-production of famous domestic movies, "Yahşi Batı" (The Best West) and "Av Mevsimi" (Hunting Season) featured last year. Fida Film was also the distributor of the second and fourth most-watched foreign movies last year, the Twilight Saga and Saw 3-D, with box-office returns of 8.6 million liras and 6 million liras, respectively.

Cooperating with some international movie studios such as LionsGate Mandate Films, Summit Entertainment and Icon, Fida Film has a foreign movie portfolio including more than 350 completed and in-production movies, the statement said. The company also has subtitle services.

A total of 105 foreign movies of Fida Film totaled 112 million Turkish Liras in box-office returns, reaching 13.5 million viewers. The company has access to 45 million consumers in regional and national bases.

The company, with its co-produced domestic movies, collected 177.2 million liras in box-office revenue, reaching 23.5 million viewers across Turkey.

Tiglon, founded in 1999, is the Turkey video licensing firm of the largest companies of the world cinema industry such as Warner Bros., Walt Disney, Sony and BBC. It is also the sole domestic company that has the distribution rights of Twentieth Century Fox.

Tiglon is a prominent video distribution company in Turkey with nearly 70 percent market share, according to the statement. It is also one of the top three companies in cinema movie distribution, with a 20 percent share. The company aims to become the biggest film distributor with 30 to 35 percent market share in 2011.
