Famous folk singer İbrahim Tatlıses withdrew his candidacy from the June election Thursday in a statement made from the hospital where he is being treated in Germany, daily Hürriyet reported on its website.
Tatlıses was shot in the head in March when gunmen opened fire as he was leaving a studio after hosting a TV show.
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan visited Tatlıses in hospital and said he would add the singer to the ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP's, candidate list.
However, Tatlıses ran as an independent candidate as the AKP’s list was full.
