Turkish PM plans two new cities in Istanbul

The ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party Chairperson and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that they would build two new cities in Istanbul.

Erdogan announced his party's election manifesto for upcoming June 12 parliamentary elections in Ankara.

"We will build two new cities in Istanbul due to high population. One of them is in European side and the other is in Anatolian side," he said.

Erdogan set 5 main targets: advanced democracy, great economy, strong society, viable environment and brand cities.

Everybody was waiting for him to announce his "crazy project" but Erdogan said it would be made public on April 27. Erdogan explained many economic, social and political targets and his projects for Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir.

For Istanbul which is expected to reach a population of 17 million, Erdogan's projects are as follows:

Two new cities will be built on the European and Anatolian sides of Istanbul, third airport and third bridge over Istanbul Strait, two tube tunnels for motor vehicles and rail transportation, two giant hospitals, Galataport and Haydarpasaport will be completed, and highways from Istanbul to Izmir and Canakkale.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that his crazy project was about Istanbul. Erdogan served as mayor of Istanbul. Erdogan said he would make public the project on April 27.
