Ex U.S. presidential candidate: Georgia should have weapons to defend against Russian attack

17 March 2011 [15:42] - TODAY.AZ
The supply of defensive weapons to Georgia was discussed in the United States this week during Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili’s meeting with U.S. congressmen. The talks were held behind closed doors.

As congressman, former U.S. presidential candidate John McCain told journalists that the issue was a main topic during his meeting with the Georgian leader.

"It is necessary to resolve the issue of providing defense systems to Georgia, so the country is able to defend itself from a Russian attack," the U.S. congressman said.

"The Georgian people should be able to defend themselves against aggression," McCain said.

He stressed that he will do all his best to address this issue.
