Iranian commander: US losing allies

16 March 2011 [15:42] - TODAY.AZ
A top commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has downplayed the US military presence in the Persian Gulf region and its position among its allies, reported Press TV.

"The old and unfounded claims on three Iranian islands were formerly advocated by some under the US influence and support, but "the US friends'" retreat from making such allegations is indicative of Washington's weak position among its supporters and allies," IRGC Navy Commander Brigadier General Hossein Fadavi said in an exclusive interview with IRNA on Tuesday.

The Iranian commander referred to the popular revolutions against tyrannical regimes in the Middle East, and said the US military presence and moves in the region have become ineffective.

A wave of political unrest has swept across North Africa and Middle East since December, where suppressed nations have been demanding political reforms and an end to their despotic regimes.

While the foreign military power is declining in the Persian Gulf, the Islamic Republic has not even missed a single day in promoting the level of its capabilities, the IRGC commander added.

"Looking at the whole situation, Iran stands strong on a position higher than all its enemies and safeguards its interests," IRGC Navy commander concluded.
