Turkish PM to attend Arab League Summit

27 March 2010 [12:54] - TODAY.AZ
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will depart for Libya on the evening hours in his next stop for foreign affairs on Friday.
Arab foreign ministers on Thursday agreed to raise funds for Jerusalem Palestinians in a bid to counter Israel's settlement drive in the Holy City, at preparatory talks for a weekend summit.

Erdogan will arrive on Libya on Saturday and will deliver a speech in the inauguration of 32nd Arab League Summit in Surt.

The Palestinian Authority had asked for 500 million dollars (376 million euros) in Arab aid to help Jerusalem Palestinians cope as they are squeezed out by Israel's settlement drive.

The weekend summit is set to be dominated by the Middle East peace process after Israel infuriated Palestinian and Arab leaders by announcing earlier this month plans to build 1,600 new homes for Jewish settlers in east Jerusalem.

During his visit to Libya, Prime Minister Erdogan will be accompanied by State Minister and Deputy Prime Ministry Cemil Cicek and Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.

Erdogan is expected to hold bilateral talks during the summit.
