Georgia has become an associated member of the International Electrotechnical Commission (body of international standards in electrotechnical sphere).
Admission to the organisation will allow the country to increase the availability of standards of the aforesaid sphere which is very important for energy sector, GHN reports, citing sources in the Ministry of Economic Development.
Membership in IEC is one of the obligatory pre-requisites for joining CENELEC (European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization).
Georgian legislation in the sphere of technical regulation is required meet European standards to facilitate the agreement on free trade with the EU.
