Syria's capital city Damascus is currently hosting a series of events aiming to promote Turkey's southern Mersin province.
Turkish State Minister Faruk Nafiz Ozak, Justice and Development (AK) Party's deputy chairman Kursad Tuzmen, the head of Turkish-Syrian Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group Mehmet Sandir and a group of Turkish deputies are attending the events organized by Mersin Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Speaking at the opening of the events, Minister Ozak said improvement of the relations between Turkey and Syria was a success story and a role model for the world.

Describing Syria as Turkey's gateway to the Arab world, Ozak said the relations between the two countries would be further improved thanks to the cooperation between Turkish and Syrian businessmen.

Delivering a speech at the ceremony, Tuzmen said that Turkey and Syria, which were two countries sharing a civilization, could also easily share trade thanks to their convenient positions.

"Turkey and Syria are located at the passageway of the world's oil resources, cultures, languages, religions, trade and transportation routes," Tuzmen said, adding that the countries should definitely benefit from all these common elements.
