Turkey's prime minister has called on the Islamic world to help Haiti which was hit by a magnitude-7 earthquake last week.
Speaking to Dubai's state television on Monday, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that he expected the Islamic world to urgently send humanitarian aid to Haiti.
In his statement to the TV channel, Erdogan also said that Turkey was one of the first countries that helped Haiti after the quake.
"I would like to address the Gulf countries in particular, we need to help Haiti. Islamic countries should show who they are during great tragedies like this. This is the one of our strongest traditions," he said.
A powerful earthquake devastated Haiti on January 12.
The quake killed tens of thousands of people and left thousands of others homeless and destitute. It was the most devastating quake recorded in the last two centuries.
