Quake jolts western Iran

A light earthquake was felt in Iran's Ilam Province with no damage or casualties reported.

The epicenter of the quake was reported to be the border city of Mehran in the western province.

According to initial reports, the magnitude was around 4.1 and occurred at the depth of 8 kilometers, on the early hours of Monday.

No damages have been reported as a result of the quake.

Iran is one of the most seismically active countries in the world, being crossed by several major fault lines that cover at least 90 percent of the country. As a result, earthquakes in Iran occur often and are destructive.
