The Congress of the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Businesspeople – the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (UzLiDeP) approved Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s candidacy for the post of president of Uzbekistan on Oct. 19, the political council of UzLiDeP told Trend.

“The delegates by an absolute majority of votes approved the candidacy of the acting president, Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoyev, previously proposed by the UzLiDeP political council, for the post of president of Uzbekistan,” said a representative of UzLiDeP political council.

Mirziyoyev was born July 24, 1957. In 1981, Mirziyoyev graduated from the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Melioration.

He served as governor of Uzbekistan’s Jizzakh Region from 1996 to September 2001, then as a governor of Samarqand Region from September 2001 until his appointment as prime minister in 2003.

Uzbekistan is to hold an early election due to the death of Islam Karimov, who passed away after suffering a stroke at the age of 79 on Sept. 2.

Four political parties of Uzbekistan are allowed to participate in presidential election.

Among the presidential candidates are Shavkat Mirziyoyev from UzLiDeP, Sarvar Otamuratov from Milly Tiklanish Party, Nariman Umarov from Adolat Party, and Hotamzhon Ketmonov from PDPU.
